The Dr. Pound Farmstead could not exist without the support of its volunteers. Our generous volunteers donate hundreds of hours a year serving the mission of our heritage museum. By donating your time and talent, you help The Pound House build toward an exciting future. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit your time schedule and interests. Come join the fun and be part of our 1850’s Club!

ADULT VOLUNTEERS

(Ages 18 and older)

Our volunteers provide many vital functions at the Dr. Pound Museum. Explore different ways you can volunteer your time and abilities. Click on the buttons at the bottom of the page to fill out an application:

  • DocentsLead tours of our museum in period costume and help recreate life during the 1800s. Training is provided and schedules are flexible.

  • Pound Provisions Greeters — Collect admissions, assist shoppers, operate cash register, organize displays and stock merchandise.

  • Program Guide — Lead tours for visiting schools and community groups.

  • ArtisansWork in our historic blacksmith barn and other artisan areas during special tours. Join in the fun of Pioneer day and be a Demonstrator.

  • Gardeners — Plant, maintain and harvest gardens in the historic areas.

  • Curatorial Specialists — Learn about Texas history while maintaining artifacts and conducting research.

  • Special EventsHelp at festivals and celebrations like Pioneer Day, Boots & Bling and holiday events.

  • Office Support — Assist with tasks in several departments that may include monthly mailings, data entry, filing and general office support.

  • Maintenance — Assist in behind-the-scenes restorations and help with maintaining our historic Texas buildings.

  • Event Planning Committee Chair-Person - Like to plan fun parties & events? We are always looking for new team members to help us with our two large fundraising events each year: Pioneer Day and Boots & Bling. Come be part of the fun while making a difference!

YOUTH VOLUNTEERS

Youth volunteering is allowed in most of the same areas available to adults, with the exception of artisans’ slots that are available with parental participation.

Select internships are available in variety of areas from event planning to curatorial work and working as a docent or guide. Click on a button below to fill out an application.

We also offer community service opportunities for youths who are working off court-ordered volunteer hours, for both young men and women, usually on Saturdays and Sundays. Call 512-858-2030 to schedule your service times.
