Happy 2022!
This year marks 168 years of Pound House Farmstead history in Dripping Springs.
In fact, it was this precise time of year in which the humble house was first built. Joseph and Sarah Pound made the arduous journey from Mississippi to Texas in the winter of 1853/54. They packed all of their most treasured belongings, and enough supplies to survive the trek, into a horse-drawn wagon and set out to establish their new home. The New Year in 1854 for them meant hewing trees and building a shelter in the middle of an area that only had one or two other families within several miles. The only trades or businesses to be found were either in Austin or Fredericksburg.
This adventure took tremendous fortitude, perseverance, hope and bravery. It seems for the Pound family this paid off, as their humble homestead grew, and with it, the community of Dripping Springs. And our community continues to grow today with many modern pioneers calling Drip home. We still retain the heart of it all at the Dr. Pound Farmstead, 168 years later.
